Our Story

Sunny Baskets is a small female owned business in handmade sustainable cat products.
All cat baskets, windowsill mats and catnip balls are handmade to order by me, Daniëlle. Our feeding bowls are specially made for us by Ineke van der Werff.

"With Sunny Baskets I want to provide cat homes with a comfy cat basket in the purrfect size and with a design that matches any interior"

Daniëlle, founder of Sunny Baskets

How it started part 1

My name is Daniëlle and Sunny is the name of my sweet British Shorthair. Before Sunny joined me and my boyfriend in (occasionally) sunny Scheveningen in 2018, the search for a nice basket started. This turned out to be quite the challenge. Fluffy baskets, synthetic materials, crazy colours.. All not for me, so I decided to create one myself by using durable, high quality material and (very important) in a colour that matched my interior. The result was our first crocheted basket which many friends loved as well. Many crochet sessions followed at the dining table. Of course always under supervision of Sunny.
One thing lead to another and Sunny Baskets was born...

How it started part 2

....In case you think that crocheting has always been a hobby of mine, nothing could be further from the truth. Before Sunny joined our family, I had never touched a crochet hook.
Until 2017 I worked in the event sector and organized corporate events all over the world. A cool job that made me travel around the globe, but also a tough job that caused a lot of stress. After 7 years I decided to quit my job, pack my things and travel solo for 4 months. This journey made me realize that there's more to life and there are plenty of opportunities. Moreover it is so important that you do something that gives you energy. That's why I decided to take more time after my return to discover what I really wanted to do and (best decision ever) Sunny joined our fam. With Sunny around, time to spare and an urge for more creative activity, the story of Sunny Baskets began.
